Doug is responsible for teaching several upper-level content methods courses in both the elementary and early childhood education degree programs. Doug also teaches courses in Educational Technologies, Indian Education, Classroom Management and Social Development, Science for Educators, and Foundations of Education, as well as other courses. Doug also assists senior level students with student teaching issues and action research, and monitors candidate licensure for the Division of Education. He serves on a state-wide task force involved in reviewing teacher preparation systems with regard to the PRAXIS national educator exam.

Doug Ruhman was born and raised in New England, and attended colleges in Connecticut and Maine before moving to Montana in 1984. Doug graduated from the University of Montana with a B.A. in Elementary Education in 1988. He worked as a 4th grade classroom teacher and writing specialist in Ronan for 11 years before becoming a technology coordinator and teacher in the Charlo School District for 3 years. After securing his Master’s Degree in Instructional Technology in January of 2002, Doug began working in Teacher Education at Salish Kootenai College. Since that time Doug has taught many courses and worked to promote the Division of Education’s goals within and beyond SKC. He is involved in several service committees at the College, and has research interests in technology and its effects on child development, and in children and the environment. Doug is also a professional musician and loves to hike, fish, paddle, and bike in Montana’s great outdoors. Doug received the American Indian College Fund Faculty of the Year Award in 2014.
